It has been reasonably priced compare to other remote control vendor sell universal remote control. It is pretty easy to program. Right out of the box I spend two minutes to go through the instruction to program my favorite channels. I like the channel listing stickers it comes with the manual but do not expect all your channels listing stickers are there...So far I am OK with this universal remote control. Let's see how long it will last because none of my Philips product last more then a year and Philips customer service is horrible. I have some issue with other Philips product that I have purchased in the past but never got call or response to my phone calls and emails from Philips customer service.

After aquiring digital cable by Comcast, my old universal remote just wasn't getting the job done anymore. All of the channels now required me to punch in three digits, e.g. 002, 037, 131, etc. So I thought I would try this remote. I had first seen it at my local computer superstore, but found it cheaper at Amazon, even including the shipping. The remote comes with instructions, that if you take your time and read carefully, are pretty easy to follow. I was able to program my favorite channels, and now I can surf 10 channels with ONE push of ONE button at a time with this remote control. It controls my Comcast digital converter with On Demand, my Sony TV, my RCA VCR, and my Sony DVD. I really like this thing. It comes with several sheets of re-usable stickers of channel icons, for the favorites listings. There's more than you might need. I think it's a great little remote. If I had any "con" at all, it would be that it does not light up. I think I would pay a few bucks more if it did.

It is easy to program and the main thing I like are the direct channel buttons. You can program 10 buttons to go directly to a given channel. With my cable box, you have to put in three numbers to go to a channel, even if the channel has only two digits. Thus, having the ability to go directly to a channel with one touch is a great benefit.

I first bought a Philips SRU4106/27 for my new HDTV. It worked very well for my purpose. So I decided to get another one. This time I bought a SRU4105/27 instead. Everything worked except that the programming of the 10 favorite channel buttons do not allow the use of '-' as in channel 7-1. The user guide that came with it clearly states that this feature is supported. I was kind of surprised given that the similar SRU4106/27 worked without trouble.
Instead of returning the unit, I called Philips customer support. They are very courtesous and quickly acknowledged that there is a problem with the SRU4105 and offered to send me the SRU4106 as a replacement. I have since received the 4106 and can report that it works like a charm. I am very pleased with Philips customer support. They were courteous and did what is right without any argument. A+ for them.
If you are getting a remote for old analog TV, the 4105 works well. As a generic programmable remote for digital TV, it's a 4-star. It's certainly lower if the favorite buttons are important for your digital TV but I am keeping it 4-star because of the A+ customer service from Philips.
Given the conversion to digital TV, if you are buying the remote because of the 10 favorite buttons, get a SRU4106/27 instead of the SRU4105/27.
